Abstract

University students are expected to achieve high academic performance as a foundation for becoming excellent and competitive human resources in the global era. However, involvement in student organizations, such as the Student Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa), often presents a dilemma between self-development and academic achievement. This study aims to determine the role of student associations in enhancing academic performance among students at Wiralodra University, Indramayu. The research problem is: Does participation in student associations significantly affect students’ academic achievement? This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method with a sample of 64 active student organization members selected through systematic random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed through correlation, simple regression, and t and F tests. The results show a strong and significant relationship between active participation in student associations and academic achievement, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.746 and a significance value of 0.000. The regression equation obtained is Y = 3.809 + 0.886X, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 55.6%. These findings confirm that student organizations play an important role in shaping academic performance, particularly through the development of soft skills, time management, and broader academic networking.
