Implementation of Sharia Principles, Compliance with DSN-MUI Fatwas, and Potential Elements of RibaAbstract
This study is motivated by the importance of implementing sharia principles and compliance with DSN-MUI fatwas in minimizing the potential for usury (riba) in Islamic banking. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of sharia principles implementation and compliance with DSN-MUI fatwas on the potential for riba in Islamic banks, specifically in the Branch in Paloipoi City. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method through the distribution of questionnaires to customers and bank staff, and the data are analyzed using statistical tests. The data were analyzed using validity, reliability, and normality tests. The results show that the implementation of sharia principles is in the high category, with percentages of 83% for customers and 85% for staff. Compliance with DSN-MUI fatwas is also in the high category, with percentages of 81% for customers and 84% for staff. Meanwhile, the potential for riba is categorized as high at 84%. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis show that the customer questionnaire obtained scores of 83%, 81%, and 84%, while the staff questionnaire obtained scores of 85%, 84%, and 84%, all of which are categorized as high. These findings indicate that the implementation of sharia principles and compliance with fatwas play an important role in controlling the potential for riba. However, the high perception of riba potential suggests that there is still caution or limited understanding among customers. In conclusion, the integration of sharia principles and fatwa compliance strengthens the Islamic banking system in preventing riba practices.
