Abstract

The high level of consumerist behavior among university students, particularly those studying away from home, raises concerns about financial management practices. This study aims to analyze the influence of financial literacy and income sources on the consumptive behavior of students in the PERMASUM Yogyakarta community, and to examine the moderating role of self-control. This research applies a quantitative approach with an associative type of study. A sample of 133 students was selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0 software. The findings indicate that financial literacy has a significant negative effect on consumptive behavior, while income sources have a significant positive effect. Moreover, self-control significantly moderates both relationships. These results suggest that students’ consumptive attitudes are influenced not only by financial factors such as knowledge and income, but also by psychological traits like self-control. The study highlights the importance of enhancing financial literacy alongside strengthening self-control to encourage healthier spending habits among students.
