Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how the hedonistic lifestyle and financial literacy of students at Muhammadiyah University of Palopo affect their parents' income. Effective financial management is crucial in this era of globalization and technological advancement, especially for students who are often influenced by contemporary lifestyles and consumerism. The financial well-being of families can be affected by low financial literacy and a tendency toward hedonistic living, particularly for parents who have to fund their children's education. Using a sample of 133 students selected through the Slovin formula, this study employed a quantitative methodology. The study found that although students’ hedonistic lifestyles have a positive and significant impact on their parents' income, financial literacy does not have a significant effect. According to the research, lifestyle factors have a greater influence on student spending, which in turn affects the financial condition of their parents, even though financial literacy can assist in personal money management. To promote better money management and mitigate the negative impact of hedonistic lifestyles, this study offers valuable insights for financial education programs among students.
