The rapid development of wireless communication technology and radar systems has encouraged an increase in the need for Radar Absorbing Material (RAM) that has high absorption capabilities. This study was conducted to examine the effect of the addition of lanthanum (La) doping on the characteristics of crystal structure, morphology, and electromagnetic wave absorption ability in BaFe₁₂₋ₓLaₓO₁₉ material with a concentration variation x of 0.00; 0,01; 0,03; and 0.05. Material synthesis is carried out using the Solid State Reaction method, then characterization is carried out through XRD, SEM, and VNA tests. The results of XRD analysis showed that all samples had a dominant phase of barium hexaferrite with a hexagonal crystal structure. Based on the results of SEM observations, the addition of the element La causes a change in particle size that does not show a regular pattern of increase or decrease. The measurement results using VNA showed that all samples had the ability to absorb electromagnetic waves, with the best absorption performance shown by the BaFe₁₁,₉₉La₀,₀₁O₁₉ sample which produced a Reflection Loss value of -21.5 dB at a frequency of 11.1 GHz with an absorption efficiency rate of 99.29%. Thus, the doping composition of La of x = 0.01 can be considered as the optimal composition in improving the performance of electromagnetic wave-absorbing materials.
